Lot consists of: (A) Officer's quality Model 1860 Cavalry Saber by Clauberg and marked as such on the obverse ricasso. Blade exhibits a gray patina with patriotic and foliate motifs on either side of blade at center. Tip was broken off and there is patina where it was broken, suggesting that it was an older break. Brass hilt with warped 3-band knucklebow. Dark patina throughout. Grooved shagreen-wrapped wood grip with twisted wire. Complete with scabbard that exhibits a chocolate finish and nicely engraved brass mounts. Dents throughout, patina to mounts, missing throat. CONDITION: Fair. (B) Model 1852 Naval Officer's sword etched "Ames Mfg. Co. / Chicopee / Mass" on the ricasso. Blade is frosted for about half its length with naval and patriotic motifs. Mellow gray patina with areas of original sheen, heavy freckling toward tip. Brass hilt with traces of original gilding and mellow patina throughout. Shagreen-wrapped wood grip with twisted brass wire. Sword knot affixed to grip. Shagreen-wrapped scabbard with fouled brass mounts that exhibit a matching patina to hilt. Marked by Ames on upper mount. Missing drag. CONDITION: Good.
