Lot consists of: (A) Circa 1790-1820 American pillow pommel sword. The sword features a curved 29 - 1/2" deeply fullered blade. The blade is rather plain and devoid of markings with no visible maker mark. The hilt is of brass and features a straight crossguard which develops into lightly curved knucklebow and a circular quillon. Fluted bone grip is contained between a plain brass ferrule and a pillow pommel topped with a screw finial. CONDITION: The blade exhibits a pleasant gray patina with scattered areas of pitting and dark spots. Very minor edge wear with evidence of sharpening. Brass hilt exhibits a mustard patina with scattered dark spots. Slight wobble. Bone grip exhibits handling wear with one noticeable lengthwise crack. Overall good. (B) Circa 1790-1820 American Eagle Head pommel sword. The sword features a curved 27 - 1/2" deeply fullered blade. The blade is decorated for about half its length with a fire blued panel. The panel is complimented by engraved military, patriotic, and foliate motifs that are highlighted with gilt. The hilt is of brass and features a straight crossguard which develops into a clamshell quillon. The angular knucklebow features a ring for the sword knot, hinting that this sword was intended for a mounted officer. The sword is completed with the sleek open mouth eagle head pommel with delineated feathers. CONDITION: The blade exhibits a dark patina with several areas of pitting and spotting. The once glimmering fire blued panels are muted with surface rust and patina with some of the decorations retaining a dull glimmer of gilt. The hilt still glimmers in some areas but has obtained a patina with age. Slight wobble. The grip exhibits one lengthwise crack as well as a few smaller cracks and a chip below the pommel. Overall good. JLD
