Lot consists of: (A) World War II US Army Air Force M1 flyer's vest with M3 Flyer's apron. The Air Corps began issuing flak jackets to aircrews in 1942. These early flak jackets were heavy, consisting of steel plates sown into multi-layered canvas that would catch low velocity fragments. An M3 apron panel was added to increase the protected areas. The heavy protection vest had a pull tab to dump it quickly if the crew had to bail out. This is the “Wilkinson Sword” version that features drab brown canvas, soft white corduroy backing, and nickel plated hardware. Complete with the bright red felt ripcord to eject the vest. Scattered blemishes and frayed areas. Buckles exhibit oxidation. CONDITION: Good. (B) World War II US Navy flak vest manufactured by The Burger Brothers for the US Navy. Lift the Dot snaps marked "BOSTON MASS UBNITED CARR". Original tag present. Missing apron. Pull tab present. CONDITION: Good. Please note that this armor is being sold as a collectible only, and not a protective device
