Lot consists of: (A) American c. 1775-1783 24 hole Militia waist box. For a similar example, see page 26 of "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. This example has a flap with rounded corner and an iron clasp, wooden .69 caliber block with contoured back, and 2 leather belt loops on back. CONDITION: Leather is pliable with some cracking and losses to surface on front flap, a couple minor tears. Belt loops both original, 1 detached at top. (B) American waist cartridge box with 24 holes, c. 1780-1820. For a similar example, see page 24 of "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. Contoured shape and approximately .75 caliber block of 24 tin cylinders. CONDITION: Leather is still pliable, but brittle, showing crazing, losses to surface and some minor losses at corners. Clasp and part of leather clasp loop are absent. 1 belt loop absent the other detached at the top. Block complete. A very nice box. (C) The hand forged blade is straight and has a 6-3/4" false edge. There are 2 pins near the ricasso on each side. The guard terminates in a closed fist, hand forged from steel on each side. The handle is wooden and rounded at the top with a brass cap at the pommel. CONDITION: Blade retains a heavy, dark patina with heavy corrosion overall. There are traces of an old white collection or museum number on right side. The guard retains a matching heavy, dark patina, and the pommel and tang are undisturbed. The wood grip has a large age crack through its entire length on the right side. This is a very early and attractive American knife. DMG
