The Indian Mutiny Medal was instituted on August 18, 1858 for award to British and Indian troops who served in operations against the mutineers and who were engaged in final operations leading to the surrender of Lucknow and the clearing of the surrounding areas. The lot consists of (A) Indian Mutiny Medal impressed in Roman capitals to "GUNR JOHN BAIN, 1ST BDE BENGL H. ART.". Original issue, as service numbers are not impressed on the original issue. Records indicate this medal was awarded to Gunner John Bain, Royal Artillery. There are several John Bain's in the records and a paper is included with the most likely candidate. CONDITION: A tag is attached to the back of the ribbon with Robinson's name. Good overall. (B) Indian Mutiny Medal impressed in Roman capitals to "SERGT CHAS TOLLOCK, 3RD BENGL EURPN REGT". Original issue without service number. The impression indicates the medal was awarded to Sergeant Charles Tollock, 3rd Bengal European Regiment. Tollock does not appear in the records, with most service members with the surname "Tallack". CONDITION: Nice patina, good overall. (C) Indian Mutiny Medal impressed in Roman capitals to "RH RIDER JAS SORRELL, 1ST BENGAL H. ART.". Original issue without service number. Records indicate this medal was awarded to Rough Rider James Sorrell, later promoted to Bombardier. Sorrell accumulated an impressive military record also earning the LSGC medal.
