LOT OF 4: WELLS FARGO LEATHER MONEY / MAIL BAGS.

Lot consists of: (A) Large leather valuables bag. Handles and stop-reinforced section is held in place with large copper rivets. Front stenciled with, "W.F. & CO. / EXPRESS. (B) Tall leather mail/express bag with tinned closure top and metal riveted reinforced bottom. Bag retains a period tag that reads, "1876 / E.B. Frouch / Fastening Mail Po..." We believe this is a sample that was submitted for a patent design. (C) Prototype leather mail / money bag. Bag is fully riveted with a tinned top closure. Front exhibits a brass tag that reads, "Luther M. Sims / Lincoln Ills." There is a also a period heavy paper tag that reads, "No. 70907 / L. M. Sims / Mail Bag. / PATENTED Nov 12th / 1867." (D) Small leather mail / express bag. Bag has a copper riveted stop section and retains a period brass padlock with key. CONDITION: All are very good with age commensurate leather rubs and light alligatoring.
