LOT OF 6: OCCUPIED JAPAN PORCELAIN & L.L. RITTGERS CHALKWARE BASEBALL CARICATURE FIGURINES
C. 1941–1952. A fantastic assortment of six baseball caricature figurines comprising two distinct groups. The first is a complete 1941 three-piece Lafayette L. Rittgers painted chalkware set featuring two baseball players and an umpire. Each figure bears a molded “©1941 L.L. Rittgers” marking, with one additionally retaining its original “Distributed Exclusively by Suttle and Rittgers, Inc., Evanston, Illinois” paper label. The figures exhibit scattered paint loss, surface wear and minor chipping consistent with age and the fragile chalkware construction. The second group consists of three 1945–1952 post-WWII Occupied Japan hollow-molded porcelain baseball caricature figures produced as export decorative wares for the American market. The three figures exhibit mild paint wear but remain free of notable chips or cracks and are in great overall condition.
