Lot consists of (A) Royal Flying Corps green wool-twill service jacket with cotton lining. Maker label is present in the collar. The jacket has two large lower flap pockets and two upper flap pockets. All RFC buttons are present with "Jennens & Co. London" backmarks. Embroidered 4" RFC wing is sewn to the jacket just above the left breast pocket and insignia is present on the collar. There are second Lieutenant pips on the shoulder straps though there are a few holes on each side suggesting that pips were removed. The interior pocket has the F. Gillett tag with the aviator's name "LT. Donaldson" and date "28-1-18" written on the label with ink. The jacket comes with matching wool trousers with button fly and "F. GILLETT" buttons. The uniform is complete with its RFC service hat with wool crown and leather brim. No maker tag is visible with silk lining. That hat is intact with nice sweatband and chinstrap but the eagle is missing from the hat badge and the upper part of the badge is separating from the hat. The uniform is clean overall with scattered light stains and minimal mothing. CONDITION: Very good. (B) World War I era Royal Air Force uniform of same construction also made by F. Gillett (tag is present in collar). 4-inch RAF wings on breast. All buttons present with lower button likely a replacement due to differing backmark. Lieutenant rank on sleeves. The uniform comes with a pair of USAAF "pinks" trousers. The uniforms came together and due to the similar sizes and same maker it is believed they are from the same veteran. The RAF was formed on April 1, 1918 and it seems as though Lt. Donaldson could have updated his uniform at the end of the war. The tunic is clean overall with minor blemishes throughout. CONDITION: Very good.
