Lot consists of documents and engravings related to Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658). (A) LS folio, Whitehall dated 9 November 1657. Neatly signed on verso "To the Governor and Companie of Merchants trading to the East Indyes". He recommends a certain "John Browne Esq...to be your President at Surrat" and states that "upon Our own Knowledge...hee hath faithfully discharged his duty in those severall publique Imployments that Wee have entrusted withall". A notation on the verso suggests that Browne got the job. Accompanied by a steel engraving of Cromwell. Edge wear with fold lines and scattered staining. Ink is bold with legible writing. CONDITION: Good. (B) Letter signed "Oliver Cromwell" folio, Westminster, 14 January 1646. A splendid signature of Cromwell, also signed by Northumberland, Salisbury, Henry Mildmay, Thomas Hoyle, and Denis Bond. The document orders payments to Sussex Cammock, Captain of the Landguard Fort in Suffolk, the sum of eight hundred four score twelve pounds two shillings and six pence "for the wages of himself, & the officers and souldiers there according to the Old Establishment and for repairing of the said Forte for one half yeere..." Reciepted by Cammock. Edge wear with fold lines and scattered staining. Ink is bold with legible writing. Accompanied by a compliment of the Keeper of Manuscripts card from The British Museum in London. CONDITION: Good. (C) 2 engravings of Cromwell, 1 portrait of him in his armor with date of 1658 and engraving of Cromwell discovering his chaplain on his knees before his daughter. Largest measures approximately 14" x 11". CONDITION: Nice graphics with light fading and scattered wear. All pieces are former Dr. John K. Lattimer Collection and (A) comes with a James Spence Authentication Full Letter of Authenticity.
