A somber Vietnam War Medal grouping that is named to Walter Novak, who was killed in action in Cambodia on May 13, 1970. Walter was a Medical NCO with Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division. He died as a result of small arms fire while on a combat mission in Cambodia. Prior to his death, Walter was wounded in the shoulder in January 1970. The group includes his framed medals, all of which are officially government engraved all valor medals come with certificates. The group appears to be an archive that was assembled by his parents, as it contains newspaper articles regarding his death and official government telegrams regarding his wounds and death. Included among these are several letters with Richard Nixon facsimiles in which the president expresses his sorrow regarding Novak's death. There are also several pieces of correspondence between Walter and his relatives as well as the record of personal property that includes a list of items that he was on possession of when he was killed. There is even a newspaper clipping with a photo of his parents receiving his medals, and the framed medals that are included in this lot can be seen in the photo. There are many other pieces of ephemera, some of which date to the 1980s and regard veteran memorials. His burial flag is also included. All paper items exhibit varying degrees of wear that are typical of old paper. CONDITION: Good.
