Barrel length: 24 - 1/4". Formerly owned by Sheriff Wm. R. Rowland of Los Angeles County. Sheriff Rowland was elected in 1872, served through 1875, and was reelected in 1879. He was born in 1846 and died in 1926. Rowland was most well known for his apprehension of the notorious California bandit Tiburcio Vasquez. A copy of Wild West magazine, October 1993, is included, which tells of this notorious bandit who sought to form a rebellion against the gringos of California. Vasquez was known for robbing stagecoaches and was involved in many battles, gunfights and robberies. This article describes in detail, robberies and gunfights that Vasquez participated in. Vasquez terrorized California from the north to the south until he was apprehended by Rowland who chased him through the San Gabriel mountains. Vasquez was tried, convicted and hung on March 19, 1875. The article further states that he was known to carry a Henry rifle. This Henry remains in original good to very good condition showing an untouched brown patina finish on barrel with traces of blue mixed in, good sharp address, period V-notch or buckhorn type sights have been inserted in the original dovetail, and the rifle shows correct factory sling swivels. Frame shows a deep patina. Buttstock is good with slight storage scratches, minor mars, carry and small losses. There is slight oil staining or darkening of the wood. There is a small hand engraved stylized "R" initial scratched into the breech. Rifle shows good sharp edges, crisp action and good bore. A great Southern California bandit's gun that descended in the family of a well known Sheriff's. Very rare hard to find firearm to add to any serious collection.

ADDITIONAL INFO: The serial number is 6263, dating the gun to 1864. Matching serial numbers present on barrel, frame, stock and butt plate.
