Dated 1858. This is an unusual extremely large and early Railroad Builders Locomotive lithograph. Retains its full margins and has not been trimmed. It is obvious that is have been cleaned and at some point was mounted on acid-free heavy paper. The colors are clean and bright as the day the litho was printed. This is a beautiful four-color stone chromolithograph, not a hand-colored black and white lithograph. The four colors include black, red, green, and brown. The verbiage on the lithograph is as follows: “Boston Locomotive Words, Formerly Hinkley & Drury No. 380 Harrison Ave. Boston, Mass. J.H Bufford’s Litho – 313 Washn. St. Boston”, “Drawn by R.C. Wright”, “Holmes Hinkley Pres.”, and “O.W. Bayley, Principal of Mechanical Department”. There are only two defects; an archival-repaired tear at the left edge (six inches long) and an archival repaired tear at the right edge (two inches long); both tears are covered in a large portion by the matt. There is an apparent wood acid burn in the background area on the right side but the conservator has lightened this so that it is barely noticeable and has done so without the use of fill-in paint. Comes with a custom mat, Foam-Core backer board, and beautiful frame.

Condition: (Excellent).

Item Dimensions: Framed: 29 - 1/2" x 42".
