Serial No. 85820. Very unique Danish Krag bolt action rifle in .22 rimfire. 33" Heavy free float barrel has been lined with a .22 cal bore. The liner is eccentric which means the shell is placed in the breech at a 12 o’clock position and the bore slopes downward and levels off and exits the muzzle at the center line. This type of barrel was found in use by some National Guard commands and the barrels were designed by H.M. Pope and J. Stevens-Pope. By utilizing this type of eccentric barrel, the rifle was able to keep it's original bolt configuration and the firing pin would catch the edge of the rimfire cartridge and the extractor would pull the shell out. No maker marks have been found to give evidence that this is a Pope conversion, yet we do speculate that it is. No evidence has been found to show that this type of conversion was done to any Danish rifles. If this was done by H.M. Pope, this is a very rare and desirable rifle. The stock on this rifle is that of a model 1928 sniper's rifle. A brass marking disc is found on the right side of the stock that reads “AS 66”. This would have been a military organization marking. Matching serial numbers are found on the stock, receiver and barrel. The stock is also stamped “FSK” which stands for “Finskydnings-gevaer” or “Snipers rifle”. Stock has cartouches of a crown over HR 31. Handling marks, few scratches, a larger chip to the pistol style grip on the left side and a 2" crack below the receiver on the left side. “HR” marked rear adjustable peep sight and hooded front sight. We believe this to be an 1889 model barrel and action in a 1928 sniper's rifle stock. The bore is very clean and shiny and has strong rifling. Some minor rust and pitting on the barrel near the muzzle. This rifle was shot in many heavy rifle target competitions and is said to be a “tack driver”.
