Manufactured from 1866 to 1879, with an estimated of about 1,000 rifles. Built on the frame of the New Model revolver series, these rifles had a slightly longer cylinder and a longer loading lever. This rifle is fitted with a heavy 28" full octagon barrel with a brass front sight and fixed rear sight. The barrel is stamped on the top “Patented Sept. 14. 1858, Remington & Sons. Ilion New York U.S.A., New Model”. Some of these rifles were factory altered to cartridge conversion, so to find them in original percussion configuration is rare. Case hardened frame and loading lever with the other surfaces blued. Fancy scroll type trigger guard. Wood stock looks to have been smoothly varnished. Loading lever has professional repair near pivot point. Nice crescent butt plate. Cylinder and nipples show expected and usual wear for a black powder weapon. Cylinder locks up nice and tight and rifle functions flawlessly. Left side of receiver is stamped “44”. No serial number has been located on this rifle. Barrel and cylinder have nice browned patina, the bore shows some light pitting, yet clean & the rifling is very prominent. Usual surface marks on the wooden stock but nothing major. This is a very unique and hard to find rifle in great working order. Overall condition is Excellent
