Without question, one of the rarest and most important metal baits in United States history is this 2 1/2" Hook To Spoon from Julio T. Buel of Whitehall, NY. Marked No.1 Patent Applied For on the front copper side and J. T. Buel Whitehall, NY on the interior silver side, this is one of very few known examples from this well known and historically significant bait maker. The well known tale of Buel dropping a spoon into the water while eating his lunch on the water is personified in this exact bait. This early bait is the exact bait pictured on page 9 of Arlan Carter's book entitled "19th Century Fishing Lures" and one of very few known to exist. A rare opportunity to own one of the earliest known baitsin the history of American fishing tackle.
J. T. BUELS PATENT APPLIED FOR HOOK TO SPOON.
