French bisque socket head incised “A. Marque” especially commissioned from the well-known French sculptor Albert Marque by Mme Margaine-LaCroix to be sold in her boutique Ca. 1914. This is a very lifelike design achieved from a complicated mold, depicting a poignant heart-shaped face with chubby cheeks, pug nose, small closed mouth with protruding upper lip, pointed chin, and prominent pierced ears; multistroked eyebrows, inset glass eyes, molded upper eyelid, painted upper and lower eyelashes, all add emphasis to her features, the painting being delicate and lovely; original wig is long blonde soft and wavy human hair. Her unique body created especially for this doll is a slender child body of composition with beautifully detailed modeling of bisque lower arms and hands, and is marked in pencil on her foot “No 31 Bernoise.” Original dress with part of the original “Margaine-LaCroix” label as a festival dress from the Bern area of Switzerland, original underwear, silk stockings (a few holes) and French leather shoes. Doll historians believe that only about 100 models of the A. Marque doll were made, and perhaps only 35 have been accounted for. Certain to be the outstanding feature of any doll collection she graces!
