Normally found in the 4”- 5” size these unusually rare large 9” papier mache Palmer Cox Brownies have jointed arms and legs. The figure is very fine with some dirt/soiling to face. Palmer Cox first published these mythical figures in 1887 and they were an immediate hit with the public, they promoted everything from pianos, soda, tobacco, pool tables etc. as well as being utilized on many varieties of coin operated gambling machines. By the earlier part of the 20th century their allure faded with the introduction of numerous other comic characters including the Yellow Kid, Katzenjammer Kids, Krazy Kat, etc.
