Normally found in the 4”- 5” size these unusually rare large 9” papier mache Palmer Cox Brownies have jointed arms and legs and overall they are in near mint condition. A variety of six different figures being represented within this lot. Palmer Cox first published these mythical figures in 1887 and they were an immediate hit with the public, they promoted everything from pianos, soda, tobacco, pool tables etc. as well as being utilized on many varieties of coin operated gambling machines. By the earlier part of the 20th century their allure faded with the introduction of numerous other comic characters including the Yellow Kid, Katzenjammer Kids, Krazy Kat, etc. Some loose arms and legs which are in need of re-stringing.
