4" wood bodied frog bait, hand carved and painted, with front mounted, blunt style aluminum spinner, rear treblehook, and unique painted lead belly weight. Previously described as an unknown folk art frog, this example has black glass eyes, hand carved and red painted mouth, and a photocopied letter from Cleve C. Speer, Jr., son and great nephew of the original makers of this wonderful bait, Cleve C. Speer, Sr. and Charles E. Speer, dated 2009. Frog appears to date to 1920s but an exact date is currently unknown. This example is by far, the most "commercially ready" frog of the collection.
SPEER FAMILY SURFACE FROG.
