Caliber .58 percussion, Barrel length 40”. Referred to as the Model 1864 or Type II with the solid barrel bands. This was the standard issue, Union Army, Civil War rifle and the last U.S. regulation muzzle loader. Metal on this rifle was finished in the white and has been cleaned to a near high polish. Has three barrel bands, front and back are solid, middle is split, all stamped with the “U” proof. Butt plate stamped “US”. Barrel is dated 1864 but it is hard to read. There is some light salt and pepper. Has the blued folding two leaf sight, hammer is blue brown patina, Eagle has been cleaned off the bolster. Lock is clean with strong legends. Walnut stock is very good to excellent with no cracks but has been freshened and no cartouche visible. Strong clean rifled bore. Fine action. Very handsome Civil War issued rifle.
