Belonging to Major General T. John. Having a 31" slightly curved blade with single wide fuller, etched with scrolls and rayed crowns. Ricasso marked: Lan?????/A. MO???/17/Jermyn. St./LONDON. Reverse with Star of David and D P R cartouche. Four-bar guard pierced with crown and royal cipher. Wire-wrapped ribbed fish-skin grip. Engraved back strap. Silver bullion sword knot trimmed with red thread. Gold bullion fringe terminals. Contained in unadorned brass scabbard, the side with engraved inscription: SWORD OF THE LATE/MAJOR GENERAL T. JOHN/LATE COMMANDING/2ND BATTN D C.L.I. Two ring mounts. Serpentine chain hanger attached with belt clip and hook. Sword showing wear overall. Scabbard with wear and minor dents.
