The sword with a 31-1/2" straight blade of triangular section. Blade with maker’s mark on ricasso and dated 1860. Primary clamshell guard embossed with deep-relief flags and eagle, supplementary guard with laurel and oak leaf wreath surrounding legend: GARDE IMPERIALE, Knuckle-bow with crown and N. Ovoid pommel with eagle. One-piece ribbed wood grip. Blade showing wear, pitting and nicks to edge. Guard spring broken. Hilt with wear and age patina. Grip wire missing. Grip possibly replaced.
