The dress sword with narrow, straight blade of 29", etched with scrolls, arms panoplies with legend reading: "Au Captaine Gonzaque de Serans. Secretaire de la mission Francaise a Lisbonne, 1828". Gold-finished hilt, the quillion a horn of plenty, the clamshell guard pierced with oak and laurel leaves and featuring a relief crown and shield in front of draped flags. Sculpted knuckle-bow and pommel. Pearl grip scales with incised border lines. No scabbard. Blade showing wear and minor pitting. Hilt with light age patina.
