Having a curved 30" blade with single wide fuller. Lower portion of blade engraved with gold-washed panels. Brass hilt with P-shaped knuckle bow, embossed eagle languets and eagle head pommel. Ribbed bone or ivory grip with wire-wrap missing. Contained in black leather partial scabbard with label reading: “Sword captured in Battle of Canoncito/by Maj.???G. S. C?????” Two brass mounts with one hanging ring (two spots). Belt stud. Blade showing wear and pitting with surface rust present. Grip chipped. The Battle of Canoncito is also known as the Battle of Santa Fe, New Mexico, August 8-14, 1846.
