Comprised of: 1) Lancer Cap. Black leather, canvas, and brass. Unadorned except for brass lions at temples that hold the brass chin strap and a brass hook on the right side. The inside of the top has crossed metal supports with a manufacturer label that reads "Cater & Co. 56 Pall Mall London Established 1776". 2) French Artillery Officer Helmet. Brass with trimmed horsehair comb, feather plume and flaming bomb, the edges banded in gilt metal. The gilded comb is decorated on both sides with volutes and laurel leaves and the front bears the head of Medusa,above her a flaming bomb with red horsehair brush, and below is another flaming bomb in brass. A black horsehair tail hangs from the rear of the comb. The leather-backed gilded chin chains are attached to two large rosette bosses.
