Early New York coatee identified to Ensign William Lyons who served from 1819 to 1825. This group consists of his New York Uniform, eagle trimmed chapeau, with a whale bone red feathered plume. This coatee has a red high collar with gold bullion trim, is dark blue, a white cotton lining, two pockets in the tails, and forty-six of the forty-eight New York State seal uniform buttons. They are one piece buttons that were factory silver washed and still retain a good amount of the silver. Each button now has a rich gray color. These buttons are listed in Albert’s book as NY10s. If you look closely at the chapeau you can see the Union eagles that were designed in the cloth but have faded. The spine of the plume is made out of whale bone and his name is lightly scratched in -W. LYON. Bought from Shiloh Relics and coming out of the late William Guthman collection. Mr. Guthman was a noted author, historian, and collector and seen on PBS’s Antiques Roadshow. The shoulder, lining, and the back of the uniform have a couple of spots of mothing. Some very small tears to the lining also. Included in this lot is the paper work from Shiloh’s Relics. Hard to find a better identified uniform grouping close to two hundred years old.
