With ID. This old lady is absolutely ele-phantastic! Here we have a very endearing turn of last century Steiff elephant. She is fully jointed, stuffed with excelsior, and made from short grey mohair. Her tail is tipped with a tuft of longer and darker grey mohair. She has soft ears placed low on her head, a simple long trunk, and white felt tusks. Her face is detailed with black button eyes. She has charming black hand embroidery on each of her legs to indicate her feet and toes. Elephant has been lovingly home repaired long ago with three calico patches on one side of her body. This distinctively vintage looking elephant pattern was made in 17, 22, 28, and 35 cm in gray or white mohair from 1907 through 1916 overall. She retains her trailing "f" button as her Steiff ID. Provenance: From a fine Connecticut collection. Condition: As noted. Nonworking squeaker. Tusks have darkened and discolored. Very loose joints. In fair to good condition with significant mohair loss and playwear.
Item Dimensions: 9 - 1/2" L.
