Round 34” barrel, steel front sight and large side mounted bayonet lug; .69 caliber rifled bore; marked at breech “1863 VP (with Eagle’s head) F.C.W.”, numbered 7396 on tang. Unique long range leaf type rear sight to 1,000 yards. Second type lock with small eagle motif over “U.S.” forward of hammer and marked “WHITNEY-VILLE” and date “1864” stamped at tail, vertically. Black walnut stock with oil finish, steel mounted with “US” stamped on butt plate tang, trigger guard with spur on rear tang. Encircled “FCW” cartouche behind rear lock screw and large “J.R.” professionally carved into left side of buttstock, steel ramrod. Good condition, barrel with brown patina, lightly pitted overall, excellent markings. Lock good, hammer and bolster pitted, markings excellent, brown patina. Stock good, scattered dents, scratches, and marks from use. Furniture dark brown or grey and pitted overall with scattered marks.
