Both knives are pre-England (1890). Blades measure between 6" and 7". The silver cast handled Bowie features a drop point and is stamped Wilkinson & Son, Sheffield with a patriotic etched motif on blade with eagle and "I can dig gold from quartz, California Bowie Knife, A Californian ask for nothing but what is right and submit to nothing that is wrong". Blade has some age spotting, a few minor nicks. Wilkinson & Son operated in Sheffield on Rockingham Street 1760-1900. There are a few minor dents in the silver handle. The second knife is stamped "Woodhead, Howard Street, Sheffield". They are listed on Howard Street 1840 to 1859. It has a wood handle with three bolsters. Blade is etched "A Californian ask for nothing but what is right and submit to nothing that is wrong". Blade is in excellent condition with a few small nicks. Also comes with one leather sheath with metal liner; tip worn.
