Two-stage 12-1/8” barrel with stages defined by a four-ring brass inlay. .70 caliber smoothbore, brass front sight, engraved brass tang. Probably made in the first half of the 18th century. Beveled banana flintlock lock plate with chiseled frizzen face. Figured stock with early-style relief carving around barrel tang, lock plate, side plate, entry ferrule and along ramrod channel. Relief brass furniture; butt cap with stirrups and grotesque mask with foliage around butt cap; trigger guard with relief foliage on bow and finial. Pierced side plate with detailed flags, foliage, and two seated figures; wrist escutcheon with crown held by two figures, crest in center oval, and flag motifs. Very good with dark patina overall, some minor repairs to wrist and trigger guard, stock with scattered marks and light wear from use.
