Though this knife is unmarked, it is beautifully made as a dress knife as well as for fighting. Quite possibly the scabbard, grips and mounts were made by a silversmith. Circa 1850. Very heavy blade with beautiful clip point and deep swedge on both sides. Light to moderate pitting overall on blade. S-shaped steel crossguard. Beautifully carved horn grip with six decorative silver studs and silver nameplate inlaid on one side; ten silver studs enhancing the back. Silver scallop pommel reminiscent of a style used by Rose of New York; this, along with the silver studs also decoration used by Rose. Creates the possibility the knife was from this highly respected maker. Solid silver dress scabbard circa 1850. Pictured in "The Antique Bowie Knife Book" by Bill Adams pages 148-149.
