The game of Faro was one of the most popular pastimes in the Wild West, played by nearly every outlaw in every town, featured in many motion pictures most notably the movie "Tombstone" where Wyatt Earp was a Faro dealer in the Oriental Saloon. The game board itself is referred to as a travelling board and is made for transport between mining towns and along the railroad. Manufactured by Ball & Bros. of Chicago, stamped on bottom left card. This is the rather scarce black card version (clubs), most of these were in the red. Cards are silk screened onto the felt board with oak frame. All original and in excellent condition. Measures 41" x 16". This set also comes with an original Faro counting board, also in black (spades) and manufactured by Mason & Co. in Chicago. It, too, folds for carry. Features the entire set of spades with the sliding counting discs. This was used to keep score at the tables. Has an oak frame. All original and in excellent condition. Measures 12" x 12" when opened. Last is a sealed deck of playing cards, made in Belgium, Great Mogul brand. These cards have no indices. This beautiful Faro gaming set is everything that would be needed to play the game in saloons throughout the West in the 1860's through the turn of the century. Seldom offered together in such complete and fine all original condition.
COMPLETE ORIGINAL TURN OF THE CENTURY FARO SET.
