Early-mid 19th century, black leather dragoon or Cuirassier style helmet, consisting of a deep leather crown with front and rear visors or flaps, the former edged with white metal. Surmounting the crown is a brass-edged leather crest with a sheepskin mane of alternating green and white. The front plate consists of an oval shield bearing three horizontal antlers, surmounted by a ducal crown, with scrolled embellishments on each side of the device. White metal, scaled chinstraps ending in lion head devices where attached to the crown. The helmet appears to be an amalgam of original and reproduction parts.
