Slightly curved single fuller blade, nickel plated and etched on right side “PRESENTED/TO SERGT. CHARLES/T. CAHILL/5TH SECTION/INFANTRY” in a panel on a gold background surrounded by military motifs and at top, the other side etched “ANCIENT/AND HONORABLE/ARTILLERY/CO.” with scrolls, military motifs and marked at top “E.O./BERTEL/BOSTON/MASS.” Nickel-plated guard with relief cast Acanthus leaves on each branch and relief sun bursts and stars on both sides of guard with Bakelite grip; pommel with relief wreaths. Nickel plated scabbard large relief eagle between ring mounts and relief engraved drag. Excellent condition, blade with a few light marks from scabbard and some light rust specks, gold wash on etching partially worn off, hilt shows light oxidation and grip has tuned brown. Scabbard with scattered rust spots and missing much of the nickel plating.
