Double breasted frock coat of grey twilled wool, heavily faded. Appears to have been altered from a post war Confederate Veterans frock coat. U.S. general service buttons backmarked, "EXTRA QUALITY". Seven of nine buttons remaining on each breast all showing evidence of reapplication. Lower arms showing evidence of being narrowed from elbow to cuff with metallic gold binding applied afterwards in a trefoil form. Missing applied cloth devices on each collar edge. Lining of brown polished cotton with fading and shattering that shows significant later alterations and reapplication to coat body. Cotton canvas interfacing to upper back panels, breast and rear skirts.
