Stein measures 5-1/2" tall, 3-3/4" at base. Made of ceramic, half litre capacity with German eagle and Swastika on face. The pewter lid has the name of a previous owner, "R. Brendel". According to Warsaw University, there was a SS Major Ryan Hard Brendel listed as an administrator at the death camp of Auschwitz-Berkenaw who was captured by Russians in 1945 and executed by the Pol's for war crimes in June 1945. Stein was cracked and professionally repaired and there are some minor dents in the lid. Given the rarity and history, still an extremely fine piece.
