Curved steel blade with large single fuller on each side, ricasso marked "18 / J.F. / 1865" on one side and "Made By / AMES MFG. CO. / CHICOPEE / MASS." Standard cast brass hilt with two branches on right side. Wood grip covered with brown leather and wrapped with braided brass wire. Complete with steel scabbard and 1851 pattern buff leather Cavalry belt and buckle with eagle in silver overlaid wreath. The belt is complete with both saber drops and all other components match. The bridal leather is dyed black on the exterior per 1851 Army regulations; interior is natural color. The buckle is stamped "38" on the back. Leather is pliable and in excellent condition with a few light scuffs. Sword in very good condition; markings on blade are quite good and blade has a spotted grey patina overall with some surface patina from scabbard. Outermost branch of hilt is bent. Excellent grip. Scabbard retains a heavy brown patina.
