An extremely rare 1848 Prussian Navy dagger with engraved and hammered fittings and an open crown iron pommel. The onion-top pommel excahnged for a crown during service under the Kaiser. Scabbard tip has the characteristic ā€œVā€ shaped border and the blade is 9-1/2ā€ long. Thomas Wittmann's "Exploiting the Dress Daggers of the German Navy" (pages 8-21) presents this style and page 106 shows Admiral Von Koester wearing this 1848 patterned dirk.
