An extremely rare 1848 Prussian Navy dagger. The blade is 9-1/2” long and is dark from age with old grinding marks on a 1/4 of the opposite edge. Much of the original gold is on the onion shaped pommel/cross guard. Thomas Wittmann's "Exploiting the Dress Daggers of the German Navy" (pages 8-21) presents this style and page 106 shows Admiral Von Koester wearing this 1848 patterned dirk.
