Manufactured in New York by the Starr Arms Company in the early 1860's. It is a U.S. secondary Martial arm six shot, double action revolver. Metal is stamped with various government sub-inspectors. Walnut grip has visible cartouche on left and right side; "C.S.L." (Chester S. Leonard) on left side and "J.S.D." (John S. Duston) on right side. The "J.S.D' cartouche is a very rare cartouche found on only a few Model 1858 Starr double action revolvers. Starr Arms address on left side of frame. Sharp legends. Basically grey patina on metal. Indexes and locks up perfectly. Strong, clean rifling.
