Includes one painted wood truck pencil holder with the back of the truck probably being used to hold a notepad and ruler. Made in Spain. Circa 1930s. Depicts a circus clown and Popeye on both sides with Popeye driving. Has small sticker which says Exclusiva Opera Mundi. Opera Mundi was the equivalent in Spain of Thimble Theater. Also includes three unused pencils with lithographed tin band around the top featuring two images of Popeye. Made by Linton Pencil Company in Lewisburg, Tennessee. Includes original cardboard store display card which is copyright dated 1949 King Features Syndicate Inc. Last item is a fabulous Popeye pencil sharpener is all metal except for wood knob at end of handle. Circa 1934. Marked An Irwin Product. Copyright dated 1929 King Features Syndicate. It was intended to be mounted on a desk top. This example is in excellent condition and has the often missing original drawer which collected pencil shavings. Provenance: Collection of Carl Lobel.
