Both are wood jointed with composition heads, have Popeye anchor tattoo decals on arms and are marked on underside of shoes with copyright date 1932 King Features Syndicate. The one carrying a cloth sea bag also has a J. Chein & Co. decal on underside of other shoe. Both have original wood bowl pipes with thin metal stem and wood hats with celluloid brim. Both have stress cracks in composition heads and one has chipping in area where pipe is inserted into mouth. Provenance: Collection of Carl Lobel.
