Made in unknown quantities between the mid 1840-1849's by Waters. This model is an enigma, as this was never an officially adopted or issued pistol. It was made in percussion, using most other parts from the Model 1836 pistol. This model has some importance as it was made between the last flintlock martial pistol and the first adopted percussion pistol, the Model 1842. Some collectors feel that it was the maker's attempt to get government contracts. Round smoothbore steel barrel is stamped "JCS/P" and has a small brass half moon front sight and oval rear sight mounted on the tang. Flat percussion lockplate stamped in the center and on tang with small "US". Unusual brass trigger, triggerguard bow, and sideplate, all made of brass. Replaced swivel type ramrod with button plunger. Plain walnut half-stock. Good condition, all steel components retain a light grey spotted patina, and have a few scattered light marks from cleaning and use, and areas of freckling. Stock very good with a few scattered light marks from use. This is a particularly unique and unusual example.
