In the 1800's, up until the late 1950's these cast iron hitching posts were bolted onto concrete around thousands of areas all over the USA and were made to prevent horses from running off. The horses and the posts started becoming a traffic hazard once automobiles were the best mode of transportation. Has a circular base, colonial column with the head of a horse mounted at the top. The horse has two barrings, welded on opposite sides of each other. Wear throughout.
