Detailed, handmade steel construction, functional visor and articulating defenses. Proportionate and stylistically accurate, mounted on a painted wood base, decorated with various painted shields around skirt on all four sides. Complete with steel miniature two-handed sword with wicker-wrapped grip and shield. Stuffed torso and legs wrapped with period red velour with some fading and minor tears. Base retains a nice crazed original patina with a few scattered marks. Armor retains a grey patina with darker patina in low areas, one rivet missing in center of shield and thumb on left side is missing. Armor was very popular in the 19th century and if one could not spare the space or money for a full size suit, many had miniature suits made as an alternative. This example is particularly detailed and has a great authentic appearance. Measures about 17 inches tall, overall, including base. This item is from the collection of, described by and authenticated by Herbert G. Ratner, Jr.
A GOOD 19TH CENTURY EUROPEAN MINIATURE FULL SUIT OF ARMOR.
