Large Hewing Ax, northern Europe, probably 15th century, broad blade with double bevel, offset from the long socket, blade stamped with the mark "P C," mounted on an early haft. Head measures 14-1/2" and blade is 7". Good condition, dark patina with scattered areas of deep delamination. Haft with some cracks and scattered marks. This item is from the collection of, described by, and authenticated by Herbert G. Ratner, Jr.
