Within the pages of the book entitled “Systeme Lefaucheaux” by Chris Curtis, the world of pin fire revolvers, the endless variety of examples and their importance during the Civil War, mostly on the Southern Side, has created renewed interest in an otherwise forgotten field of gun collecting. It has the English pattern and is stamped “J. Newark Coventry” (John Newark Bailey Lane, Warks 1853-94) on the right side of the frame and is a six shot, double action. Right side of frame stamped “Vfyers-Be” with serial number 2404. There are numerous English proof marks. The bore measures 12mm. The fit exhibits superb quality. The 6-1/4” octagon barrel, frame and straps are basically a clean soft grey patina with razor sharp markings. The cylinder has about 50% bright high polish, blue finish remaining. This example features the finely checkered walnut grips that are in excellent condition. The bore and action are fine. If you are interested in Civil War history, these large bore revolvers will fill that void.
