Straight single-fullered polished steel blade, ricasso marked in a circle "C. ROBY CHELMSFORD, MS." on one side, the other stamped "U.S./1862 F.S.S.". Standard cast brass hilt and grip, right side of flat knuckle bow stamped "S/F.S.S." for inspector Frederick S. Strong. Complete with blued steel scabbard with brass mounts, throat mount inscribed "to 1st Sergt. William Henry McMinn/F. Co 3rd Cal. Inf. Feb. 1862/by his Sergeants". There were 11,000 of these made and delivered in 1862 by Roby. Excellent condition, blade polished bright with some freckling and gray spots. Markings very good. Hilt and scabbard mounts have been polished and now retain a mellowing patina and some scattered marks from use. Drag with some denting. Presentation shows some light wear. Steel body retains much of blued finish with some areas turned to brown, and a minor dent on the back. California presentation swords are very scarce and are seldom encountered.
