Slightly curved single-fullered steel blade, etched panels nearly the entire length on both sides. The right side with detailed scrolls, military motifs, arms, and "PRESENTED/Edward M. Fielding/BY THE/1ST SECTION/INFANTRY/JUNE 2ND, 1913.". The other side with arms motifs, scrolls, and large "A. & H.A. CO.", the ricasso is marked "HARDING/UNIFORM/&/REGALIA/BOSTON/MASS." Silver plated hilt with three branch guard, and horn grip with four finger grooves. Front of the guard is chased with a sunburst around the blade, and both sides of branches have acanthus leaf designs. The back of the guard has a patriotic eagle, chased in relief, with stars around the base of the grip. The pommel is decorated with branches around a patriotic shield. Complete with period sword knot, and silver-plated steel scabbard. Very good condition. Blade retains much of original polish, with grey patina overall and some scattered dark spots. Hilt retains 90% of silver finish, with some areas of light wear. Scabbard retains about 95% of original silver finish with a few areas of dark patina. This is an unusually detailed example, displaying high quality workmanship and a nice and early presentation on the blade.
