Straight single-fullered blade with etched panels spanning nearly the entire length on both sides. The right side features a fouled anchor, arms motifs, and "PRESENTED/TO GUNNER P.G. CRONAN/BY GRADUATED CLASS,/FEB. 10, 1918.". The other side has a large "U.S.N." surrounded by scrolls, a fouled anchor, and patriotic motifs. The ricasso is marked "HARDING/UNIFORM &/REGALIA/BOSTON/MASS.". Gilt brass mounts, guard with detailed chased and pierced oak leaves, acorn, and relief "U.S.N.". Pommel decorated with oak leaves and an eagle surrounded by stars in relief on top. Ray skin wrapped grip with beaded brass wire. Complete with period gold knot, and black leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts with relief rope and engraved designs, including a fouled anchor on the throat mount. Excellent condition, showing almost no use. Only a few areas of light edge wear on hilt and scabbard, otherwise nearly as new.
